Bij een specialist in industriële automatisering in Utrecht werk je als medior Test Automation Engineer aan de betrouwbaarheid van besturingssoftware. Je vertaalt functionele eisen naar herhaalbare tests voor PLC-, HMI- en SCADA-toepassingen en bouwt testautomatisering waarmee fouten vroeg zichtbaar worden. Daarbij combineer je softwarekennis met inzicht in machinegedrag, interfaces en industriële communicatie. Je richt je niet alleen op correcte werking, maar ook op foutafhandeling, reproduceerbaarheid en bruikbare testresultaten voor het ontwikkelteam.

Je werkdag bestaat uit het ontwikkelen van testscripts, uitvoeren van regressietests en analyseren van afwijkingen in een simulatie- of testopstelling. Je bespreekt bevindingen met software engineers, besturingstechnici en projectleiders binnen een multidisciplinair team. Samen bepaal je welke risico's extra aandacht vragen en welke tests nodig zijn voor FAT en SAT. Je krijgt ruimte om je te verdiepen in testframeworks, industriële protocollen en de integratie van geautomatiseerde tests in het ontwikkelproces.

Wat ga je doen?

• Vertalen van functionele specificaties en risico's naar testscenario's en acceptatiecriteria.
• Ontwikkelen en onderhouden van geautomatiseerde tests met bijvoorbeeld Python en pytest of Robot Framework.
• Opzetten van simulaties en testopstellingen voor PLC-software, HMI-schermen en systeeminterfaces.
• Testen van gegevensuitwisseling via bijvoorbeeld OPC UA, Modbus TCP en Profinet.
• Integreren van regressietests in versiebeheer en CI/CD-pipelines.
• Analyseren en reproduceerbaar vastleggen van defects en verifiëren van softwarecorrecties.
• Voorbereiden en ondersteunen van FAT en SAT met testprocedures en rapportages.

Wat vragen we van jou?

• Je hebt hbo-werk- en -denkniveau, met een achtergrond in technische informatica, elektrotechniek of industriële automatisering.
• Je hebt enkele jaren ervaring met softwaretesten en testautomatisering, bij voorkeur voor industriële systemen.
• Je kunt testscripts schrijven in Python of een vergelijkbare taal en werken met Git en een testframework.
• Je begrijpt PLC-besturingen, bijvoorbeeld Siemens S7/TIA Portal of Beckhoff TwinCAT, en de koppeling met HMI/SCADA.
• Je analyseert storingen systematisch en vertaalt eisen naar meetbare, reproduceerbare tests.
• Je communiceert helder in het Nederlands en Engels en hebt rijbewijs B voor bezoeken aan projectlocaties.

Jouw rol

Als Senior Test Automation Consultant werk je aan testautomatisering bij verschillende organisaties. Je kijkt verder dan tooling alleen: je helpt teams bepalen wat slim geautomatiseerd kan worden, hoe frameworks robuust worden opgezet en hoe kwaliteit beter verankerd raakt in het ontwikkelproces.

• Je ontwerpt, bouwt en verbetert testautomatiseringsoplossingen met onder andere Playwright of Robot Framework.

• Je integreert geautomatiseerde tests in CI/CD-pipelines.

• Je adviseert teams over teststrategie, kwaliteit en effectieve automatisering.

• Je neemt collega’s en klantteams mee in werkwijze, keuzes en best practices.

• Je brengt technische diepgang, overzicht en consultancyvaardigheid samen in klantopdrachten.

  Wie we zoeken

Je bent een ervaren QA Automation Engineer of Test Automation Engineer die graag verantwoordelijkheid pakt en helder kan uitleggen waarom bepaalde keuzes werken.

• Minimaal 5 jaar ervaring als QA Automation Engineer of Test Automation Engineer.
• Diepgaande kennis van Playwright of Robot Framework.
• Programmeervaardigheid in Python en/of JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Ervaring met testautomatisering binnen moderne ontwikkelomgevingen.
• Een consultancymindset: communicatief, flexibel en scherp op kwaliteit.
• Goede beheersing van Nederlands en/of Engels.

Daarnaast is het mooi meegenomen als je ervaring hebt met performance testing, security testing, cloudplatformen zoals AWS, Azure of GCP, of het opzetten of leiden van QA-teams of tribes.

Summary of the role

The Associate Commercial Lab Engineer supports safe, effective, and efficient testing activities in the European demonstration center. Role and Responsibilities

• Support customer tests and demonstrations in the European demonstration center, under supervision.
• Assist with preparation, setup, operation, and clean-up of lab equipment for defined test scenarios.
• Follow established safety procedures and laboratory standards when working with equipment, materials, hand tools, power tools, and electrical systems.
• Document test conditions, observations, results, equipment settings, and relevant technical details accurately and consistently.
• Coordinate with senior colleagues, engineering, sales, and application specialists to understand test objectives and priorities.
• Help maintain the lab in a clean, organized, safe, and audit-ready condition.
• Execute basic maintenance tasks on the lab and demo equipment.
• Conduct basic training sessions for both internal teams and external customers
• Assist with tracking lab supplies, consumables, tools, and equipment readiness, escalating needs for replenishment or maintenance.
• Contribute to basic troubleshooting and problem-solving during tests, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
• Develop product and application knowledge across relevant Nordson ICS product lines.
• Support preparation of test summaries, customer-facing information, and internal updates as requested.

Skills and Qualifications

• Associate degree, bachelor's degree, vocational qualification, or equivalent technical training in engineering, mechatronics, electrical, mechanical, industrial, or a related technical discipline preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in a technical, laboratory, manufacturing, service, engineering, or customer-support environment.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to document technical information accurately and consistently.
• Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customer-facing personnel.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Analytical mindset with basic problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies, products, and applications.
• English language skills required; German or additional European language skills are considered an advantage.
• Exposure to automation, electrical systems, robot programming, or powder finishing applications is beneficial but not required.

Travel

• Occasional travel within Europe may be required to support customer demonstrations, training activities, and business needs.
