We are currently searching for an enthusiastic intern to study metabolic pathways in plasmid production, within the Advanced Therapies API Process Development department, part of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Leiden. This team consists of ~25 employees with background(s) in bioprocess design, biochemistry and molecular biology.

who are you
We are looking for a proactive individual whom is looking to develop their skills in problem solving, experimental/analytical data and building hands on experience with offline analytics.

• • Master student in biotechnology, bioprocess development, biochemistry, or a similar study
• • Affinity with metabolic analysis for bioreactor cell cultivation
• • You are available for a minimum of 6 months and 40 hours per week
• • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Flexibility to adapt to changing business and project needs

what will you do
A thorough understanding of cellular metabolism forms the basis for designing robust and scalable upstream biotechnological processes. Metabolic analysis explains cellular responses to varying process conditions. By understanding the interplay between the formation of (by)products and the physiological state of the cells, a forward control strategy can be designed for real-time bioreactor process control.

This internship focuses on using existing online process and analytical data, together with metabolite analysis of archived samples. These data sets can be used to:

• Get a deeper understanding of the interplay between bioreactor process conditions, formation of (by)products and product quality.
• Convert measured information into actionable insights that facilitate improved bioprocess development and outcomes.
• Develop predictive models in which (already available) spectra are coupled to analytes, with the goal to further develop a process analytical tool for real-time monitoring.

where will you work
The Advanced Therapies API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) Process Development department designs and develops scalable manufacturing processes for a diverse panel of pharmaceutical products. Our work spans the full workflow from cell culture through downstream purification. We partner closely with our local pilot plant, to enable production of innovative therapies for clinical evaluation.

who are you
We are looking for someone who is autonomous and open to ask for help when needed. An independent thinker, and not afraid to challenge the status quo to find efficiencies. Able to work independently as well as part of a team.

• You are a HBO/WO Bachelor or Master in: Educational Sciences, Learning and Development, Educational Psychology or Instructional Design;
• You are available for the minimum of 6 months;
• You can speak English;
• You can start as soon as possible;
• You are available for 32 to 40 hours per week.

• Conduct Needs Analysis: Audit current training assets and identify specific development requirements within the organization;

• Select Delivery Methods: Determine the most effective digital or physical formats for each module to maximize engagement;
• Enhance Trainer Capability: Support the professional growth of trainers to ensure more effective knowledge transfer.
